“Historically, we have presented at this event and are excited, post-COVID suspension, we are back at it this season,” robotics mentor Kay Netteberg said. “We will be presenting a class jointly with Alexandria Mechatronics 3313 on the value of pursuing the Chairman’s awards. We will also host a class on female inclusion and success, and why, as a team, 3102 has a great track record in this area.

“This event is a great opportunity for our new members to learn about different aspects of FIRST robotics, and give our team an opportunity to stretch themselves and teach classes to others. This is an all-day event and provides a great opportunity for our members and mentors to network and connect with other teams in our state.”

Team 3102 also held a fifth-grade robotics presentation at Nevis School Nov. 24. Team members facilitated two interactive sessions.

“The sessions consisted of a presentation outlining FIRST robotics, 3102’s history and team model, and the basics of robot construction,” Netteberg said. “Throughout the presentation, teams of two fifth graders were given the opportunity to drive the robot and shoot the balls. The students did a great job presenting, and the fifth graders had a blast! One of the goals of 3102 is to introduce all of our elementary students to robotics through presentations and STEM curriculum at least once a year.”

During the second semester, team members will be teaching BigBrain STEM classes, assisting with Lego robotics in the classroom and holding group presentations with a Rapid React robot.

“In this way, we will impact more than 300 elementary students in our community,” Netteberg said.
